Sandhill Cranes are among the most majestic of birds to photograph. Each year a population of about 23,000 Greater Sandhill Cranes migrate to the middle Rio Grande Valley to overwinter. In late February they begin their journey northward to the region around Yellowstone National Park to breed, stopping along the way at National Wildlife Refuges in the San Luis Valley of Colorado. I simply can’t resist seeking them out, both in New Mexico and at their stopover near Monte Vista, CO.
